Rangitāiki Tours is a locally owned Maori family business based in the Eastern Bay of Plenty. Our passion is sharing the natural beauty and rich Maori heritage of our land and people, to the world. Born and bred locals we have over 30+ years knowledge offering packaged tours showcasing whenua (land), wai (water) and kai (food).
Our tours connect manuhiri (visitors/guests) to tangata whenua (local people of the land) while we transport you to cultural and nature landmarks of significance, sharing our history and Māori customs. We specialise in small group tours to enhance an intimate experience providing itineraries ranging from 4-6 hours, or we can tailor make unique experiences to suit specific needs.

4-Hour Guided Experience
Welcome to our 4-hour guided experience! Let our kaiārahi (local guide) lead you on a journey of nature, Māori culture, food, new friends and long-lasting memories across our ātaahua (beautiful) region. Designed with children and relaxed fitness levels in mind, this tour includes a light nature walk, scenic views, cultural site visit and stories, finishing off with lunch at a local venue.

Our Wairua Wellbeing experts would love for you to join us for an exclusive 4-hour session that will leave you feeling relaxed, centred and inspired. Let our wairua ora kainga (spiritual wellbeing home) become your home and let us treat you like the taonga (treasure) you are!

Paihikara Hiko (eBike)
Nau mai haere mai ki nga Paihikara Hiko! Welcome to our eBikes! The only eBikes available for hire in the region. A great way to see the views and natural beauty of the Whakatāne and Ōhope townships. These bikes come equipped with pedal assist to make your riding experience as leisurely as you like. These urban eBikes enable you to explore Whakatāne and Ōhope townships at your leisure. Two of our eBikes come equipped with child carriers so your young ones can ride the adventure with you!

What should I wear?
The clothing recommended to wear depends on the tour, hire or service booked as well as weather and temperature conditions on the day. Comfortable active wear is most suitable. Please refer to each tour, service or hire for more specific detail.

Is pick-up from and drop-off to my location available?
Yes, we provide pick up and drop off service to save you the hassle of getting to and from the tour. This option is available during the booking process. Please note there is an additional charge.
Can anyone take part?
Our kaupapa (approach) is to provide experiences to suit everyone. However, the safety and wellbeing of you, us and the public is most important and due to the nature of activities in some of our experiences there may be restrictions. Please read the detail of each experience carefully to ensure it is the right fit for you.
Is food and drink included?
Yes. In Māori culture it is customary to provide a meal for manuhiri (visitors/guests) and our kaupapa (approach) is to source from local suppliers and/or establishments. If you have specific dietary requirements, please ensure to include details upon booking.
Please note there is an exception with eBike hire, as where you go and what you do is up to you. We can help you with catering or picnic baskets if you like. Just enquire upon booking.
What type of food and drink is included?
The food and drink are wide ranging and varies depending upon the tour or service and weather conditions on the day. The menu for your specific tour will be shared with you prior to the tour or service start. If you have specific dietary requirements, please ensure to include details upon booking. We will endeavor to meet your needs but in extreme cases where we are unable to do so we will work with you to provide alternate arrangements.
Can we bring our own food and drinks?
You are more than welcome to bring your own. Our tours provide lunch (with the exception of eBike hire) so unfortunately, there is no discount available should you choose to bring your own.
Are toilet facilities available?
Yes toilet stops are included into the tour. For eBike hire we provide a map that includes public toilets.
Can we bring personal valuables?
We recommend to avoid bringing items of value unless you intend to carry them with you throughout the tour, hire or service, for example phone or camera. Rangitāiki Tours Limited accepts no responsibility for damage or loss of personal possessions, except where have legal obligation to do so.
Do I need to have some level of experience?
No not at all. However, due to the nature of activities in some of our experiences there may be restrictions. Please read the detail of each carefully to ensure it is the right fit for you. Rest assured you are in capable safe hands with our kaiārahi (local guide). If you are unsure about suitability please enquire with us.
What is the gradient of the hikoi (walk) tours?
The gradients vary from easy (4-hour) to difficult (6-hour). Elevation ranges from approximately 50 metres (4-hour) to 200 metres (6-hour).
How rough is the terrain for the hikoi (walk) tours?
The terrain varies from paved pathway, grass, sand or natural uneven surface. We recommend wearing footwear that is durable, comfortable and has good grip.
What is the risk of being hurt or injured by wildlife?
As with any outdoor activity there is naturally wildlife. We are amongst papatūānuku (mother earth) and respect that the land is a habitat for others. Luckily New Zealand is relatively safe in terms of dangerous creatures and the risk of being hurt or injured is low. Our knowledgeable kaiārahi (local guide) will advise you of any high-risk areas. If you have a concern of anaphylaxis or any other health or safety issue, please let us know upon booking or prior to the tour, hire or service start.
For the Wairua Wellbeing experience can I substitute the foot soak?
Our experiences are set itineraries and we plan and resource them accordingly. So unfortunately we cannot substitute the foot soak or any other part of that experience. You do have the option to opt out, however refund is not available.
What if I don’t want to participate in some of the experience?
Everything is optional, and your comfort, safety, wellbeing and happiness is our priority. If there is something that you would like to opt out of that is absolutely fine. Unfortunately, as we plan and resource our tours and service to set itineraries and budgets, we are unable to refund parts of the experience that you do not partake in.
Where is the pick-up and drop-off for eBike hire?
The pick-up and drop-off location is in Whakatāne. Once your eBike hire is confirmed we will advise exact details. eBike drop-off and pick-up service to your specified location within the Whakatāne or Ōhope area is available and may be selected upon booking. Please note there may be an additional charge.
What is the cancellation policy?

What happens if the weather is bad?
We constantly monitor the weather, and where conditions are likely to impact a tour, hire or service to the point that it may be unsafe, we will advise no later than 7am on the 7am on the day of the scheduled tour, service or hire. In such cases we will offer credit for a future date or full refund.
