Nau mai haere mai ki wheako 6-haora! Welcome to our 6-hour guided experience! Let our kaiārahi (local guide) lead you on a journey of nature, culture, food, whānau (family) and long-lasting memories across our ātaahua (beautiful) region. Let tangata whenua (local people of the land) transport you in our comfortable van to cultural and nature landmarks of significance while we share the region’s Māori history and customs. Depending on conditions of the day your experience may include any of the following*: Visit a secluded waterfall, hike to a scenic site, sample Māori cuisine, lunch with us in a beautiful natural setting, hear the history of how Māori came to this region, visit cultural and nature sites of significance, learn about important Māori customs, learn your mihi (Māori introduction), ground yourself with papatūanuku (Mother Earth) on sacred land, walk through the waters of our awa (river), moana (ocean) or roto (lake), gather and sample shellfish, walk across our local dam – you may even see water being released, view our Marae.
*We may be able to provide the option of a conservation activity, such as track clearing or tree planting. Please contact us or enquire upon booking to let us know how we can help.

Casual clothing, and comfortable flat footwear for walking and hiking is recommended. Bring layers for weather changes.

Seasonal weather conditions in New Zealand are as follows (source: newzealand.com), Spring (September-November) average daytime temperature: 16-19˚C (61-66˚F). Summer (December-February) average daytime temperature: 20-25˚C (68-77˚F). Autumn/Fall (March-May) average daytime temperature: 17-21˚C (62-70˚F). Winter (June-August) average daytime temperature: 12-16˚C (53-61˚F).
We supply a bottle of locally sourced spring water, but we recommend bringing your own water bottle too. The experience includes a visit to a natural spring supply where you can refill your water bottle.
You may also want to bring a hat/cap, sunglasses, lip balm and a small backpack to carry items.
Walking sticks/hiking poles are optional.
We recommend avoiding bringing items of value unless it is intended for them to be carried/secured with you for the duration of the experience, for example phone or camera. Rangitāiki Tours Limited accepts no responsibility for damage or loss of personal possessions, except where have legal obligation to do so.
For health and safety reasons this experience is age restricted to 16 years or older only.
Total walking ranges from 1-3 hours depending upon conditions on the day.
All manuhiri (visitors/guests) must advise of any pre-existing health conditions (e.g. food allergies, asthma, epilepsy, or arthritis etc) or safety concerns prior to experience commencement to ensure we can provide controls measures.
Fitness level required: Low to Good.
Degree of difficulty: Easy to Moderate.
Track terrain: Mostly well-formed and flat. There may be a small amount of surface/track that is uneven, rough, muddy, or steep incline.
Start time: 9.00am. End time: 3.00pm.
This experience requires a minimum of 4 manuhiri (visitors/guests) to proceed.

Courtesy pick up and drop off from accommodation available for Whakatāne township. Pick up request must be advised no later than 12pm the day before experience start date. Exceptions may be considered, please call us on +64 21 379 201 to confirm.
Optional pick up and drop off from accommodation available – From and to Ōhope: $15pp additional. From and to Rotorua/Tauranga: $50pp additional. Other locations – Please call us on +64 21 379 201 to discuss.
We kindly ask that all manuhiri (visitors/guests) are ready and arrive on time. In the interest of the roopū (tour group) we will not delay if people are late.

In the case of adverse weather conditions (e.g. rain, high winds etc.) a postponement or cancellation call will be made no later than 6pm the evening before the scheduled experience. All manuhiri (visitors/guests) will be notified via email or text and offered credit of equivalent value for future use or refund less 5% administration costs.
